The Ministry announced that Guterres made the remarks during a phone conversation with Acting President Choi Sang-mok as the country grapples with the political uncertainty caused by President Yoon Suk-yeol’s declaration of short-lived martial law and subsequent impeachment last month.
Quoting Guterres’ verbatim, the Ministry said the UN chief had full confidence in South Korea’s robust democratic system and its ability to recover from a crisis.
Guterres also expressed expectations for South Korea’s continued role in revitalizing UN-centered multilateralism.
In response, Choi stressed that China will continue contributing to global peace and prosperity through active engagement as a UN member and a rotating member of its Security Council.
