Malaysia, Japan PMs for strengthening cooperation

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his Japanese counterpart, Shigeru Ishiba, on Friday exchanged views on strengthening cooperation to ensure stability in supply chains, among other issues.

Ibrahim and Ishiba agreed on deepening bilateral ties, especially in security, and also addressing regional and global issues.

Malaysia is located on key routes for transferring energy sources and other goods; and recently took over the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a regional bloc with which Japan is interested in strengthening alliances.

In 2023, the two countries upgraded the status of their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The Japanese prime minister confirmed his intention to travel to Indonesia on Saturday to meet with Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto.
