After 800 days of power void, Parliament will meet for the thirteenth time to appoint the head of state since the beginning of the calls at the end of September 2022.

According to experts, the session will reduce the candidates rather than resolve the presidential vacancy, as international pressure increases following the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

The Parliament held 12 sessions to elect the next representative of the Maronite Christian community to occupy the Baabda Palace, but no candidate obtained the support of 86 deputies.

The last call before the Israeli aggression, on June 14th, 2023, repeated the failure of the previous ones, prolonging the presidential vacancy to date.

The head of the Marada faction, Sleiman Frangieh, announced yesterday that he had withdrawn his candidacy for the presidency and confirmed his support for the candidacy of the army commander, Joseph Aoun, who according to local reports has the support of the National Moderation and Democratic Encounter blocs, the support of independent deputies and the opposition (Phalangist Party and Lebanese Forces).
