The executive secretary of the National Public Security System, Marcela Figueroa, stated in a press conference that December was the month of last year with the lowest number of victims of this crime, with a daily average of 72.8.
The report presented by the official also indicates a decrease in these crimes during the first months of the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum in six of the seven states where half of the homicides in the country are concentrated.
According to what was exposed, in Baja California it decreased 22.7 percent from September to December; in the State of Mexico, 22.2; in Chihuahua, 23.8; in Jalisco, 7.2; in Guerrero, 15.7; and in Nuevo León, 56.1.
Only Guanajuato reported an increase of 3.9.
In the northern state of Sinaloa, where an increase in violence was recorded from September onwards, the authorities reported a slight containment in the escalation with a decrease of 13.7 percent between the highest point in October and last December.
Regarding annual comparisons, in 2018 there were 100.5 victims per day on average of this crime, which has been dropping every year, down to 82.1 reported in 2024, a reduction of 18.3 percent, illustrated Figueroa.
The administration is implementing a national security strategy based on four main lines of action: attention to the causes, consolidation of the National Guard, strengthening of intelligence and investigation, and coordination with the states.
