Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stressed that cyberspace is highly virtual and difficult to track, with multiple actors involved. He also criticized the Japanese authorities’ lack of professionalism and responsibility who based their judgments solely on the objectives and methods of the attack.

In the official’s opinion, these types of conclusions are not supported by an adequate technical approach. He also noted that some allies of the United States had begun to cooperate disseminating “false information about China.”

The spokesman urged all parties to “address cybersecurity issues based on facts and international norms” with an “objective, fair and professional” attitude and not become supporting actors, in what he called, “a political comedy.” He also reaffirmed China’s commitment to the fight against cybercrime and reiterated that security issues in cyberspace must be dealt with technically following international laws, without falling into political manipulation.

This week, Beijing rejected US accusations of alleged cyber espionage, calling them groundless and without legal basis.

The spokesman urged Washington to immediately cease its smear campaign against China, especially by using this issue as a pretext to impose sanctions. “For a while, the United States has exaggerated and distorted accusations of cyberattacks, launching illegal and unilateral sanctions against our country. China firmly opposes these actions,” he stressed.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cyber attacks against Chinese state entities occur almost daily, mostly originating in the United States. “The United States is the world’s largest piracy empire and the global cyber thief,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry previously stated.
