Kampala, Jan 9 (Prensa Latina) The executive secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu, held talks today with Uganda's permanent secretary for Foreign Affairs, Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, on issues of common interest.

Gebyehu wrote on his X social network account that the talks focused on shared priorities on peace, security and regional issues, with a strong emphasis on strengthening IGAD’s institutional capacity.

He said the African body ‘greatly values its longstanding partnership with the Republic of Uganda, a founding member state, as we work together to promote regional development and integration’.

Gebeyehu is leading the Authority’s high-level delegation to the African Union’s Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government on the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Agenda, focused on shaping the continent’s post-Malabo agri-food systems agenda for 2026-2035.

The conclave scheduled for January 9-11 sessions under the theme of promoting inclusive transformation of agri-food systems for sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.
