South Asian countries express solidarity with China

New Delhi, Jan 8 (Prensa Latina) Governments in South Asia expressed their solidarity with the Government and people of China for the victims and damage caused by yesterday's earthquake in the Xizang Autonomous Region.

According to the latest official reports, 407 persons have been rescued alive so far from under the rubble, while 126 died and 188 were injured.

The President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu, conveyed his condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the earthquake and wished for rapid relief efforts.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, expressed his most sincere condolences to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people for the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake. The head of government wrote on X: “Pakistan is deeply saddened by the tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those affected. Pakistan stands in solidarity with the people of China during this difficult time”.

The Foreign Ministries of Nepal and India, among others, expressed their condolences on behalf of their governments and conveyed thoughts and prayers to those who lost their loved ones and those affected by the disaster.

A 7.0 earthquake magnitude hit Cuoguo township, Dingri county, in the Xizang Autonomous Region (Tibet), whose population is about 6,900 people, less than 20 kilometers from the epicenter.

More than 14,000 people, including army personnel, police, firefighters, forest rangers, Communist Party leaders, and volunteers, are participating in the rescue and assistance efforts following the strong earthquake in Tibet on Wednesday.
