Mexican President reaches 100 days in office with high approval

Mexico City, Jan 8 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reached her first 100 days of government with high citizen approval and management characterized by the continuity of social changes initiated in 2018.

After winning the elections in a landslide in June of last year, the president succeeded former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who promoted the fourth transformation of public life in the country.

In an address broadcast on December 31st, Sheinbaum highlighted that almost 36 million citizens “decided two essential things: the first, that the fourth transformation continues, and the second, that for the first time, a woman would govern Mexico.”

Between the last days of López Obrador’s mandate and the little more than three months of the current head of the Executive’s administration, Mexico witnessed the promulgation of reforms to the Constitution that, according to the ruler herself, returned the social sense to the Constitution.

In addition to maintaining the social programs conceived during the López Obrador administration, as she promised to do, the head of State added three others, including one intended to benefit women aged 60 to 64 with a pension; a second initiative will provide support to families with children and adolescents enrolled in preschool, primary or secondary school in public schools; a third, called Health House by House, seeks to improve the quality of life of older adults and people with disabilities.

Regarding security, one of the main concerns of Mexicans, the government is implementing a strategy based on attention to the causes, consolidation of the National Guard, strengthening intelligence and investigation, and coordination with the federal entities.

According to a December survey, published by the newspaper El Financiero, Sheinbaum has a 78 percent approval rating, the highest level recorded so far by that poll, preceded by 70 percent support in October and 69 percent in November. Only 18 percent of those surveyed disapproved of the president’s work.

Regarding Sheinbaum’s qualities, the study recorded 75 percent positive opinion on honesty, 74 on leadership, and 67 on her ability to deliver results.
