Emissions in the energy sector fell from about 500,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) in 2016 to more than 2.5 million tCO2e in 2022, reflecting the successful introduction of cleaner energy and greater energy efficiency, the First Biennial Transparency Report (BTR1) indicated.
The document, officially submitted to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), states that the waste sector also saw a significant increase in reductions, reaching about 30,000 tCO2e in 2022, due to advances in recycling and waste management.
