WHO denounced infant deaths in Gaza due to cold weather

Ramallah, Jan 7 (Prensa Latina) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), on Tuesday denounced the death of seven children in Gaza due to the cold weather and insisted on an urgent ceasefire in that territory.

“At least seven newborns died of hypothermia in Gaza in December 2024, and more children are in danger,” the health official warned in a post on X.

Every child deserves a healthy and safe start in life, but the children of Gaza are paying the price of war with their own lives. Stop the fire,” said the WHO chief, who has repeatedly criticized the conflict and called for a negotiated solution.

The health organization warned on the same social media that “As temperatures drop in Gaza, heavy rains and cold weather are making survival even more difficult for displaced families.”

A few hours ago, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA) also questioned the infants’ deaths.

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) highlighted three weeks ago that one million Palestinians are at risk of the onset of winter due to material shortages and inadequate shelter to cope with the cold.
