In a virtual meeting with officials of all states and territories of the nation, Srivastava reiterated that close monitoring of the epidemiological situation at the international and national level is being maintained.
On the two detected cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV), the health secretary stressed that there is no cause for concern about this disease which, she said, has been present all over the world since 2001.
She advised states to strengthen and review surveillance for Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) or Influenza Like Illness (ILI).
Salila Srivastava reiterated that there is usually an increase in respiratory diseases during the winter months.
She further stated that the country is well prepared for any potential increase in cases of respiratory diseases.
However, she recommended that states improve their preparedness and public awareness plans to prevent transmission of the virus with simple measures such as washing hands often with soap and water; avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
