Radio Tamazuj broadcasted statements of the acting commissioner of North Tonj, Daniel Magar, stating that among the dead there are 10 children, and that the camp needs urgent attention due to hunger and diseases.
Magar also pointed out that the lack of medicines and food shortages are the main challenges, and that the recent floods made it more difficult to deliver aid.
He described the health situation in Alabek IDP camp as dire because the population has been overwhelmed by floods for more than three months and people are victims of hunger and various diseases.
Likewise, the director of the North Tonj Health Department, John Akot, confirmed that the humanitarian situation in the camp is further deteriorating due to the natural disasters, and noted that insecurity in the area makes it difficult for medical care to arrive at a time when people are fleeing and facilities are being vandalized.
