The event, scheduled for January 8-12 in Santa Clara, will pay tribute to the outstanding Cuban composer and performer (Havana, June 6, 1934 – October 3, 2024), who wrote songs like “Palabras,” “No es preciso,” Deja que siga sola” and “Tú no sospechas,” among others.
Valdés’ work consists of boleros, sones, criollas, habaneras and music for theater and television.
The president of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) in Villa Clara, Elizabeth Casanova, told reporters that Marta Valdés participated in several of these events here and had a special appreciation for Santa Clara song movement, which is very close to her.
“During her lifetime, she knew that the 2025 contest would be dedicated to her work and she was very enthusiastic,” Casanova revealed.
During the event, the photo exhibition “Hoja de Ruta,” taken from her personal archive, and the documentary “Marta Valdés, soberana del tiempo,” by Raúl Nogués and Juan Carlos Travieso, will be premiered.
At the closing ceremony, Marta Valdés’ songs will be performed by prominent singers like Frank Delgado, Ivette Cepeda, Adrián Berazaín, Ariel Barreiro, Carlos Lage and others.
The guitarist and composer Manuel Corona (Caibarién, June 17, 1880 – Havana, January 9, 1950), seduced by the beauty of Longina O’Farril, released the world-famous song “Longina” on October 15, 1918.
