This was expressed after his meeting in Doha, Qatar’s capital, with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani. “We conveyed some of our concerns to the brothers in Qatar and the challenges we face at the current stage, in particular the economic sanctions that affect the Syrian people, and constitute an obstacle to the rapid recovery of the Syrian economy,” Al-Shaibani said.
The Minister reiterated the demand for Washington to lift the sanctions to accelerate recovery and begin building a new Syria. He emphasized that the new Syria will have good relations with the countries of the region, with pillars of peace and joint cooperation. “The current phase requires honesty and joint cooperation with all countries in the region and building a new Syria on the basis of justice, freedom and equality,” he said.
Al-Shaibani said his meetings in Doha were extensive, with basic and strategic issues, and where Damascus presented its roadmap for rebuilding Syria, empowering its people, and establishing a government that represents all components of the country.
The official thanked Qatar for the humanitarian aid it is providing Syria and considered that strategic partnerships between the two countries will mark Syria’s quick recovery, especially in basic services.
The Syrian foreign minister visited Qatar on a tour that will also take him to the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.
This is the second visit of the current head of Syrian diplomacy after concluding the previous one to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
