Cuban Revolution is a beacon of hope, Sri Lankans say

Colombo, Jan 6 (Prensa Latina) The Communist Party of Sri Lanka (PCSL) described the Cuban Revolution as a beacon of hope for all those who fight for sovereignty and a just social order, diplomatic sources reported on Monday.

In a message on the 66th anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the Sri Lankan political organization also expressed its solidarity with more than half a million Cubans who protested in Havana on December 20, 2024, against the brutal United States blockade.

During a recent visit to the Cuban Embassy in Colombo, representatives of the PCSL delivered to Ambassador Andrés González a congratulatory letter addressed to the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and the Cuban people.

Like the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, numerous political and social organizations in this South Asian country have extended their congratulations to the Cubans and expressed pride in the combativeness, resistance and resilience demonstrated in Cuba in the face of the difficulties exacerbated by the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.

The Association of Sri Lankan Graduates in Cuba expressed its confidence in the Cuban people’s capacity to overcome the current adversities, and highlighted their strength in defending their dignity and values in the face of difficult periods imposed also by Cuba’s inclusion in Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list.

In an event on the anniversary, chaired by Cuban Ambassador Andrés González, the Minister of Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe, thanked Cuba for its example and fraternity, and wished success to its government and people.

The Democratic Left Front (DLF) of Sri Lanka, in turn, reiterated its call for an end to the US blockade against Cuba in a message signed by its general secretary, Vasudeva Nanayakakara.

The Bolivarian Solidarity Group of Sri Lanka described the Cuban Revolution as a heritage of the anti-imperialist world and highlighted Fidel Castro’s leading role Fidel Castro in Cuba.

The National Freedom Front of Sri Lanka underscored Cuba’s achievements in science and health care in a message from its top leader, former parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, to President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
