According to members of a dozen of these organizations, as reported on social media, no strike is expected for the next few days, so there will be no problems with travel for those returning home after the end of their vacations, or for transportation works.
“In the face of malicious misinformation in different media and social networks by political and personal interests, we declare that at this time we are in permanent assembly and the process of consultation and socialization with our transport bases,” the statement revealed.
The representatives confirmed that the group is united around a series of issues that have been harmful over time, but in light of this, they insist on the paths of dialogue for the well-being of the nation.
The clarification comes after certain media outlets reported that a truckers’ strike would begin in the department of Santander, northeast of the country.
In an interview with Caracol Radio, the director of the United Truckers Family Foundation of Colombia, Alberto Palma, ruled out any support for this protest and praised the progress achieved in the working groups with government representatives and freight and passenger transporters and in the agreements signed during the past month of December.
“We can testify and attest that the Ministry of Transport, together with the entire Government, has done the most exhaustive, strongest work, which had not been known in any other era of other governments, to give a response and to give results to benefit the traditional Colombian trucker,” said Palma, who estimated that there is progress in matters related to 15 points associated with labor rights, structural changes in the information system of efficient costs for motor freight transport, among other issues.
