Brazilian President Returns to Presidency

Brasilia, Jan 6 (Prensa Latina) President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva returned to the Planalto Palace after undergoing two head surgeries in December.

After the surgeries in a private hospital in Sao Paulo, the president concentrated his activities at the Alvorada Palace, the official residence of the heads of the Executive, and at Granja do Torto, the country house of the Presidency. However, he did not leave presidential duties during the recovery period.

After his return, da Silva will have to focus on two main issues: the confrontation over parliamentary amendments and the discussion on a possible ministerial reform.

The lack of consensus between the Supreme Federal Court and the National Congress regarding legislative revisions, which has been dragging on since August, remains on the agenda.

There was no agreement on the rules to apply the resources and in the last days of last year, Supreme Court Minister Flávio Dino suspended all transfers, despite the legislature.

Lula was discharged from the hospital in Sao Paulo on December 15th after needing to undergo surgery to stop an intracranial hemorrhage. He was allowed to return home to continue receiving close clinical follow-up.
