In declarations to the television station Al Jazeera, the spokesman of this institution, Mahmoud Basal, affirmed that this strategy is part of the so-called plan of the generals.

The initiative was presented last year by a group of retired high-ranking officers, led by Major General Giora Eiland, Israel’s former national security advisor.

After expelling the population, the northern region will be turned into a military zone, those still there will have only two options: surrender or starve to death, Eiland said in presenting his proposal. Basal also criticized the systematic Israeli attacks on hospitals in the territory.

In recent hours, the Army ordered the evacuation of the last two hospitals operating in the north: the Indonesian and Al-Awda.

On October 5 last year, the Armed Forces launched a large-scale ground operation against the northern region of the Strip, cut in two by the so-called Netzarim axis, erected by the military.

More than 45,000 Palestinians were killed since the beginning of the conflict, in October 2023, and more than 108,000 were wounded, according to official data.
