The event commemorates the 130th anniversary of the death of the poet and Cuban national hero José Martí, and it also honors Nancy Morejón, a Cuban poet and winner of the National Literature Prize, who will serve as the Honorary President. The event will feature the Meeting of Poets in Defense of Humanity.
The poet Karel Leyva Ferrer is the festival’s coordinator. According to the announcement, humanity is living through dark times, a breakdown of the values treasured by civilization in the imminence of a nuclear war in which life on earth could disappear.
It is a moment in which poetry and poets must raise their voices in defense of life and the beauty accompanying the evolution of the human race, the text stresses.
It also indicates that the authors invited to the virtual Havana Poetry Meeting must previously send their video recordings, which will be received (in English or Spanish) on the website festivaldepoesiadelahabana.com until 21 April 2025.
The videos will be six minutes long for the poetry readings and 20 minutes for the interventions in the reflection forums.
