Dominican United Left congratulates Cuba on triumph of Revolution

Santo Domingo, Jan 1 (Prensa Latina) The United Left Movement (MIU) of the Dominican Republic sent a fraternal greeting to President Miguel Díaz Canel and the Cuban people on the 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.

“Please accept our fraternal greetings on the occasion of celebrating with you, Commander Raúl Castro, the comrades of the Communist Party, your Government and the heroic Cuban people, supported by the memory of the always remembered Commander (in Chief) Fidel Castro, the 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959,” the MIU said in a message to the head of State.

In the letter, signed by MIU General Secretary Miguel Mejía, the political organization praised “the dedication and courage of a people who always act, as the Apostle José Martí said, “Let each one do his part of duty and nothing will be able to defeat us.”

Celebrating this date with you, at this time when the sister Republic of Cuba and its people are living under the impact of the inhumane blockade imposed by the United States of America, which the world rejects, is a reaffirmation of our friendship and solidarity, contributing together with you to unity, internationalism and the construction of the Homeland in innovative resistance, the message pointed out.

In the message to Díaz Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Mejía hoped that “this 66th anniversary celebrated with the dignity that characterizes the people of Cuba continues to open paths of brotherhood in the joint struggles that lead us to the victories of the peoples.”

The Dominican leftist leader, who met in Havana with Díaz Canel in early 2024, described the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba as criminal.

In statements to Prensa Latina this year, the Minister for Regional Integration Policies praised the dignity of the Cuban people in complex economic situations aggravated by Washington’s policy, which makes it difficult for Cuba to acquire food, medicine and technology.

In his office at the National Palace, Mejía rejected any interference in Cuba’s internal affairs and defended the sovereign right of Cuba and of all peoples to self-determination.
