Through a statement, the command explained that the first grave was found in the town of Khan Al-Assal, east of Aleppo, and contains around eight thousand bodies.
In the new cemetery, another grave with seven thousand bodies was detected, while in the area of Al-Naqarin, a grave contained 1,500 bodies, it said.
Last Sunday, the authorities of Aleppo discovered an alleged mass grave with hundreds of bodies, after information provided by a resident.
Civil defense teams began to remove the remains to identify the bodies through DNA tests. Photos shared by the ministry show a skull and a decomposed body buried underground, as well as authorities inspecting the area near a ditch.
Syrians have discovered suspected mass graves across the country since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime earlier this month.
During the war that has ravaged Syria since 2011, crimes were committed that led to the disappearance of thousands of people, whose relatives are now demanding their fate.
The question of the whereabouts of tens of thousands of detainees and missing persons is one of the most important issues for many Syrians. According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, the number of detainees and forcibly disappeared in the country, after the emptying of prisons, reached 112,414.
