According to the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Fernando González, the movement in support of Cuba in the face of increased US hostility and the island’s inclusion on the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism brings together more than 1,600 organisations from 152 countries.
The activities carried out in 2024 included demonstrations, sit-ins, caravans and a joint effort with Cubans abroad, Gonzalez told national television on Tuesday.
He affirmed that more than 100 resolutions were produced by different cities and trade union organisations in the US demanding the lifting of the blockade and the removal of the island from the State Department’s unilateral list.
In addition, he said, Cuba received material support after natural disasters and for the health system, and three continental meetings of solidarity were held in Africa, Asia and Europe.
He stressed that the Marathon of Love for Cuba, an initiative of the Continental Network of Solidarity in Latin America and the Caribbean, which began on the 64th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples and will last until its 65th anniversary in 2025, was presented on Monday.
González highlighted the work carried out with Cubans living in other countries in conjunction with the movement of solidarity with Cuba, which, he said, has been a very beautiful expression of support for the Cuban social project.
