Dozens of former Syrian soldiers repatriated from Lebanon

Damascus, Dec 29 (Prensa Latina) The Lebanese Army handed over some 70 members of the dissolved Syrian Army to the Department of Military Operations, which is currently in power in Syria, local media reported here on Sunday.

The handover of the uniformed personnel, including some officers of various ranks, took place at the Arida border crossing, which connects both countries, in the coastal province of Tartous.

Images posted on the networks show the regulars crossing the border crossing and transferred by the Department of Military Operations to an unknown whereabouts.

The soldiers had arrived in Lebanon illegally after the fall of Bashar Al-Assad’s government on December 8 and the dissolution of the Syrian Armed Forces.

The Lebanese general security had warned that it would arrest the officials from the deposed government of Bashar Al-Assad who enter Lebanese territory and who are wanted by justice.

Syria’s de facto leader, Ahmed al Sharaa, stated that the new authorities would pursue those he called war criminals and would demand their surrender from the countries where they have taken refuge.
