Djibouti, Dec 29 (Prensa Latina) Djiboutian President, Ismail Omar Guelleh, on Sunday welcomed the Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Gedion Timotewos, who is leading a delegation from the neighboring country on a visit here to strengthen bilateral relations.

Talks focused on strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two sister nations, as well as the exchange of views on bilateral and continental issues of mutual interest.

They emphasized the importance of joint efforts to address key areas highlighted during the 17th meeting of the Ethiopia-Djibouti Joint Ministerial Commission held last April.

During the dialogue, ways to boost cooperation in maintaining regional peace and stability were also addressed.

Earlier, Timoteos held official talks with his Djiboutian counterpart, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, on bilateral and regional issues, as well as exploring new avenues of collaboration.

Youssouf praised the strong ties between the two nations, rooted in shared cultural bonds, and expressed optimism for the continued improvement of their partnership.

He conveyed his gratitude to Addis Ababa for its peacekeeping efforts and confirmed Djibouti’s alignment in the fight against the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.

Timoteos, for his part, highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two nations, considering it a model of successful collaboration in the region.

He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s active role in promoting peace and stability and also reiterated his country’s commitment to the fight against Al-Shabaab, an organization responsible for numerous attacks in the area and considered a terrorist organization.

The two parties also explored cooperation in areas such as economy, trade and port services. The Ethiopian diplomat arrived in the capital the day before, heading a high-level delegation that was received by his Djiboutian counterpart at the international airport.
