In an interview with Sputnik on Sunday, Lavrov stated that the accord, long-agreed upon by both parties, entails a comprehensive, long-term, and universal nature and does not require any changes.
According to Lavrov, the agreement between Russia and Iran aims to formalize the unprecedented progress in bilateral relations achieved in recent years and their level of strategic partnership.
Additionally, the document “pays special attention to strengthening cooperation for the sake of peace and security at the regional and global levels, reaffirms Moscow and Tehran’s aspiration to closer cooperation in security, defense, and fighting terrorism.
The foreign minister also hopes that signing such an agreement would open additional opportunities to expand Russian-Iranian cooperation in priority directions.
Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Kasem Jalali, announced a few days ago that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will visit Moscow on January 17 to sign the agreement.
