In Havana, the event will be at La Piragua, where several dance couples who won awards in various championships will also perform, and the most popular in Cuba will be chosen, Luis Llamo, president and organizer of the Retomando el Son Project, told Prensa Latina.
According to his statement, training workshops and activities with the youngest members of the household and in various educational institutions were held throughout the country on December 26 and 27, in coordination with the Federation of Secondary School Students (Feem) and the Federation of University Students (FEU).
We are working together with universities, the Cuban Workers’ Central (CTC) and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) in order to organize a massive event for this Saturday.
The intention, according to Llamo, is for the people to participate in this great celebration, rooted in the culture, identity and national essence.
He specified that the initiative is linked to the Retomando el Son Project, which, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the National Council of Cultural Houses, among other organizations, has the purpose of safeguarding the genre, its rhythms and popular dances, especially the casino.
It is a task that is also carried out to help in the battle against cultural colonization, “because we have foreign music and cultures with a strong presence among youth.”
Through our culture and the Cuban son, with its rhythms and popular dances, we intend to gain knowledge, promotion and diffusion of this “casinero” movement throughout Cuba, he added.
The Retomando el Son Project has new objectives for next year, he assured, among them an event for the National Day of Son, with which they hope to conquer a new world record with the Cuban clave, in coordination with the different mass organizations of the country.
In August, on the occasion of the birth of Benny Moré and Arsenio Rodríguez, we will celebrate the Festival Retomando el Son a lo cubano, he said.
While in November, in honor of the 506th anniversary of the founding of the town of San Cristóbal de La Habana, the International Meeting of Soneros will be held, in virtual format.
These competitions help us to reinforce our identity and to strengthen Cuban culture from its essence and roots, concluded Luis Llamo, known as “The Ambassador of Son”.
Under the slogan Cuba dances Casino for Victory, numerous dance couples and audiences who love the genre will meet this afternoon at La Piragua to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the revolutionary triumph.
