This was stated in statements to the press after meeting with Orsi, who she said was interested in the proposal.
Rousseff stated that Uruguay’s accession is strategic for the BRICS bank, which would be the second Latin American country to join the institution, with adhesions from countries of several continents.
She pointed out that Uruguay’s addition was already approved by the bank’s board of governors, made up of ministers of Finance, Economy and Finance.
The former Brazilian president highlighted the capacity of the financial institution to grant loans in logistics, digital, social infrastructure (education and health), as well as to face climate change. Also to manage access to technologies that, she stressed, could influence productive areas.
Everything depends on Uruguay, on the part of the BRICS bank it has been approved, she said, and she opined that on the part of the South American country the approval of its institutions is lacking, in particular the Parliament.
She stressed that the New Development Bank of the BRICS is at the service of the “Global South”. “We would never put macroeconomic conditions, we have the best rate in the world,” she assured.
Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are among the initiators of the group, which has been joined by other countries as members and associates, interested in seeking alternatives to the economic and financial hegemony of the United States and other Western powers.
