Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo identified grandson in Argentina

Buenos Aires, Dec 27 (Prensa Latina) The Argentine association Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo reported today the identification of the 138th grandson of those appropriated by the last civil-military dictatorship in this country (1976-1983).

In a statement, the organization announced that it will offer a press conference at 2:00 p.m. local time, in the auditorium of the House for Identity of the Space for Memory and Human Rights ex-ESMA (former School of Mechanics of the Navy).

Recently, the president of the association, Estela de Carlotto, said that finding the grandchildren gives strength to continue with the search for those who are still missing.

It is a constant, silent, patient and loving work. Time does not stop and we have already said goodbye to several of our colleagues. Many of them were not able to achieve the well-deserved hug, she indicated.

Following the 1976 coup, the military regime that was established made 30,000 Argentines disappear and hundreds of children were kidnapped with their parents or were born during captivity.

At the ESMA, Campo de Mayo, Pozo de Banfield and other detention and torture centres, clandestine maternity wards operated and 500 children were separated from their mothers.

Some of them were given to military families, others abandoned or sold.

The Grandmothers continue to search for the rest of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who also suffered the consequences of the horrors perpetrated by the dictatorship.

In addition, they demand the punishment of those responsible for these crimes.
