Colombia announces new cycle of aid program for vulnerable people

Bogotá, Dec 27 (Prensa Latina) The Department of Social Prosperity of Colombia reported that more than 500 thousand Colombian households, classified as low-income, will receive a monetary transfer starting today as part of the sixth payment cycle for banked households of the Renta Ciudadana program.

The Department also clarified that on this occasion, the resources will only be delivered to families with single parents with children of six years of age, and homes with persons with disabilities.

In total, 546,761 households will benefit from the care assessment line, for which the Government will allocate 273,380 million pesos (more than 60 million dollars at the current exchange rate).

According to the source, the transfers for this program cycle will be extended until the end of January next.

Additionally, The Department of Social Prosperity is also carrying out the 12th cycle of Colombia Mayor payments, which seeks to increase protection for the elderly by providing a financial subsidy for those who are homeless, do not have a pension, or live in extreme poverty.

At this stage, one million 684 thousand 881 older adults will receive the monetary transfer, for which the entity will allocate more than 226 billion pesos (more than 50 million dollars at the current exchange rate).

Of the total beneficiaries with a scheduled transfer for this last cycle of the year, 484 thousand 691 are over 80 years old, so they will receive 225 thousand pesos (about 50 dollars at the current exchange rate).
