MAELYS Lome II was carrying goods, vehicles, and passengers, but was never able to set sail, as it capsized up in the port of Varreux.

According to the Haiti Libre digital newspaper, the experts appointed to investigate the case have not yet determined whether it was due to the crew´s negligence or whether the ship was overloaded.

Dozens of vehicles and trucks loaded with goods fell into the sea, and the Haitian Maritime and Navigation Service still does not know how many people are missing.

So far it was only reported that the individuals looting the goods from the ship lost their lives.
