The exhibition is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Russian Society of Friendship with Cuba (SRAC), said the deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea, and president of the regional branch of the SRAC, Irina Kiviko, speaking at the opening of the exhibition.
“Today is a celebration day for us”, Kiviko enthused, adding that “We have an opportunity to touch the art of the Island of Freedom and appreciate the creativity of Cuban masters.”
She recalled SRAC’s foundation in 1964, when first world cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, and legendary commander Ernesto Che Guevara cochaired the association.
“We follow through with such glorious traditions,” Kivikov stressed.
“We are currently launching creative contests and involving youth interested in what is happening in Cuba. These younsgters are currently discussing issues of mutual concern with their contemporaries, in a bid to bridge the physical distance gap separating Crimea and Cuba,” she emphasized.
The exhibition, covering the 1961-65 period, features 30 works, all in different styles, which all share a common Cuban flavor, where the burning Caribbean sun, the gentle blue ocean and the locals’ open hearts stand out.
