On his X account, the head of Cuban diplomacy stated that Israel continues to take advantage of its international impunity to commit crimes anywhere in the Middle East.
The senior official of the World Health Organization (WHO) reported on social networks that one of his crew members was injured and two people were killed at the airport.
“When we were about to board our flight from Sana’a, about two hours ago, the airport was bombed from the air,” he explained on the digital platform.
“The air traffic control tower, the departure lounge (a few meters from where we were) and the runway were damaged,” Ghebreyesus said.
According to press reports, Israel’s attacks coincided with a high-level visit by the United Nations to Yemen as part of talks on the humanitarian situation in the country and the release of detained humanitarian and diplomatic personnel.
In addition to the airport, dozens of Israeli planes on Thursday bombed two power plants, oil facilities and numerous targets in northern Yemen, controlled by the Houthi militia, in the latest episode of the bilateral confrontation.
Regional television stations agreed that this was the largest of four attacks by the Israeli Air Force in 2024, amid an escalation caused by the aggression against the Gaza Strip.
Yemen has been divided since 2014, following the uprising of the Houthis, who control the capital and large areas of the north and west of the country, where more than 17 million people need urgent humanitarian aid, according to statistics from the United Nations.
