Child intoxication triggers probe into adults’ accountability in DR

Santo Domingo, Dec 26 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican Public Prosecutor’s Office is currently seeking to identify responsibilities into the alcoholic intoxication of 11 local minors during the Christmas holidays.

The director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), Juan Manuel Mendez, expressed his concern about the after-effects of alcohol intoxication on the children.

Mendez called on the Public Prosecutor’s Office to take measures against adults and insisted on the need to act with prudence during the New Year’s Eve festivities to avoid more tragedies.

Apart from the six deaths in automobile accidents on 24 and 25 December reported yesterday, the COE announced that a total of 73 people were treated for alcohol intoxication, including 11 minors between 10 and 17 years of age.

Last December 24, the COE launched the operation ‘Conscience for Life, Christmas and New Year’, which was extended until 18:00, local time, this Wednesday.

The second phase of this operation, which involves several institutions, will begin on December 30.
