Brazil offers assistance into Kazakh air crash’s probe

Brasilia, Dec 26 (Prensa Latina) The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) is in contact today with Kazakhstan’s authorities, offering to collaborate in the investigation of the plane that, with 67 people on board, crashed last Wednesday in the city of Aktau.

Brazil and the Central Asian country are signatories of the International Civil Aviation Convention, which allows nations involved in the manufacture and operation of aircraft to request inspections at the crash site.

The accident involved an E-190 from Brazilian manufacturer Embraer. The tragic incident resulted in the death of 38 people, while 29 survived, including three children.

The aircraft had taken off from Baku, Azerbaijan, bound for Grozny, Chechnya, Republic of the Russian Federation.

Only a couple of hours into the flight, the aircraft requested an emergency landing.

Due to thick fog in Grozny, it was first diverted to Makhachkala, in Russian Dagestan, and then to Aktau, where it finally crashed about three kilometers from the airport of this city, located on the shores of the Caspian Sea.

Kazakhstan’s Emergencies Ministry said that firefighters managed to control the fire that erupted from the crash.
