Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning noted the consensus reached by the member countries for the incorporation of new partners.

The spokeswoman explained that after the historic expansion of the group last year, the inclusion of these nations marks a significant advance in the development process of the BRICS.

Mao added that the expansion reinforces the mechanism capacity to promote global cooperation, especially in the context of the Global South, while increasing its representativeness, convening power and influence.

Mao pointed out that the group´s objective was to promote economic, political, and social cooperation at a crucial moment for the international order.

The inclusion of these countries also symbolizes an important step towards consolidating BRICS as a multifaceted collaboration mechanism, capable of responding to global challenges in a joint and supportive manner.
