“Hundreds of thousands of Cubans protested against the US blockade,” headlines the Tuoi Tre newspaper, highlighting the presence of President Miguel Díaz-Canel and the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Raúl Castro, along with other senior authorities of the country.
The publication quotes the words of the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, who said: “We march to tell the US government to let the Cuban people live in peace. Stop the interference!”
The newspaper also notes that Cuban authorities estimated the number of participants in the December 20 demonstration in front of the US Embassy in Havana, as about 700,000 people.
It also recalls that on December 17, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba reaffirmed its readiness to dialogue with President-elect Donald Trump when he comes into office in January 2025, to improve relations between the two countries.
During his first term (2016-2020), Trump implemented 243 measures to strengthen the blockade, among them the inclusion of Cuba on the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT).
