The official compilation has not yet counted the 10 deaths from Sunday’s plane crash in Rio Grande do Sul, where the state government confirmed that death toll.
The flight took off at 09:12 local time from the airport in the municipality of Canela towards the city of Jundiaí in Sao Paulo and crashed minutes later. The cause is still being investigated.
According to FAB data, in a follow-up led by the Air Accidents Research and Prevention Center (Cenipa), another 138 deaths were reported through December 17.
Such a number shows a considerable increase over previous periods.
In 2023, for example, there were 77 deaths from air crashes, compared to 49 in 2022.
The second year with the most lives lost was 2017, when 104 people died in such disasters.
In other studies, Cenipa still estimates that the country had 166 accidents as of December 17. Of these, 40 were fatal.
