According to the Cuban Seismological Service, the earthquake occurred at 1:00 a.m. local time, about 35 kilometers southwest of Chivirico town in Santiago de Cuba province. “This phenomenon was felt throughout the eastern half of the country and is an independent earthquake to those that took place on November 10 in Pilón,” expert Enrique Arango, head of that institution, explained.
Until 5:00 a.m. local time, 208 aftershocks have been recorded, some felt in areas near the epicenter.
The Doctor of Science, Enrique Arango, explained exclusively to the radio station CMKC that the 6,1 earthquake that happened was not a replica of the one in Granma, it was another fault and a different tectonic zone.
“Already this one has more than 60 aftershocks, so far two perceptible, the largest of 3,8. Specialized agencies remain together with the highest authorities of the territory, monitoring the situation”.
It was advised that citizens remain vigilant, out of enclosed places, and get down from tall buildings and places in danger of collapse.
