As if it were a foretaste of the deportations of millions of people from US territory announced by President-elect Donald Trump, Joe Biden’s administration has put a large number of migrants out of the country.
According to the 2024 annual report of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) cited by El Mundo newspaper, the figure doubled the seven thousand 231 expelled two years ago, in 2022,
The data indicate that deportations of nationals increased by 83 percent in the last year.
Washington deported more than 68,000 in six years, with the highest number in fiscal year 2019, in which a total of 18,981 were returned.
Data from all those deported show that the most common crimes are trafficking, dangerous drugs, immigration, assault, obstruction of the judiciary, theft, or general crimes.
According to experts, President Nayib Bukele’s closeness with Republican Donald Trump is expected to help reach an agreement so that the migrants may not return to El Salvador.
