The sources said that the Women’s Affairs Office will deal with the legal, social, cultural, and political female spheres.

Aisha Al-Debes, the head of the new body, said: “It is time for women to take their place in building the country.”

She promised to work so Syrians would soon be pioneers in various fields.

She also noted that the Syrian ladies’ presence will be strong at the next National Dialogue Conference scheduled to be held shortly.

She is the first woman appointed to a position in the new authority that took power in the country after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government on the 8th of this month.

Her appointment comes amid fears and calls for women not to be marginalized and for them to play an important role in society and the state as they have historically done.
