WHO sends resources to face unknown disease in DRC

Kinshasa, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) The World Health Organization (WHO) sent resources to face the unknown disease that continues to affect today the locality of Panzi, in the province of Kwango in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Through its account on the social network X, the agency’s representation in the country delivered oxygen concentrators, laboratory supplies, malaria rapid tests, and essential drugs for treatment intended for communities and health facilities in Panzi and affected areas.

“WHO is helping to strengthen health services so that those affected receive the care they need, and is supporting efforts to find out what is making people sick,” the message stressed.

Teams from the UN agency are working to collect samples for study, with more than 345 samples collected so far, including nasal, urine, stool, breast milk, blood cultures, whole blood and oropharyngeal swabs.

Investigations into the unknown disease have not yielded conclusive results, so teams continue to work in the field, both collecting new samples and assisting sick people.
