Hungarian Prime Minister calls for calm after insults

Viktor-Orban-1
Budapest, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, after offensive statements by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, called to maintain a "strategic" calm, Kossuth Radio reported.

“We cannot succumb to any provocation, because in times of war, the most important thing is strategic calm,” said the Hungarian politician when commenting on Zelensky’s recent reaction to his peace initiatives.

Last week, Orban said that Hungary proposed to Ukraine a ceasefire for Christmas and an exchange of prisoners of war.

Zelensky, for his part, sharply rejected all the proposals of the Hungarian Prime Minister. “We do not need countries that want, like Hungary, like Prime Minister Orban, to become mediators. It will not work, I will not let him in,” he said at a public meeting in Lvov.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, for his part, accused Ukraine of launching a campaign against Hungary. “It is clear that Zelensky has launched an ugly campaign against us in recent days. He constantly provokes us on the international stage,” the Hungarian minister noted, stressing that Budapest should not succumb to such provocations.

Commenting on this news, Russian President’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that Zelensky’s rudeness towards the Hungarian prime minister shows the extreme lack of culture of the Kiev regime. He also recalled that Ukraine refused to support the efforts of the Hungarian prime minister, while Putin, on the contrary, supported him.
