Heavy to very heavy rains expected in Mexican states

Mexico City, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) States in northeastern, central and southern Mexico will receive today heavy to very heavy rains and north winds due to the incidence of several phenomena, according to forecasts of the National Meteorological Service (SMN).

According to a press release from the institution, experts expect very heavy rains in the states of Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Veracruz, as well as heavy rains in Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Zacatecas.

Likewise, rain showers are expected in Campeche, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Mexico State, Guanajuato, Nuevo Leon and Yucatan, and isolated rains in Aguascalientes, Mexico City, Colima, Jalisco, Michoacan, Morelos, Nayarit and Tlaxcala.

Specialists also forecast north winds of 30 to 50 km/h (kilometers per hour) and gusts of 70 to 90 km/h in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec (Chiapas and Oaxaca), as well as 20 to 30 km/h with gusts of 40 to 60 km/h on the coasts of Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Veracruz and Yucatan.

There will also be winds of 20 to 30 km/h with gusts of 40 to 60 km/h in the Gulf of California (north), Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, and swells of two to three meters high in the Gulf of Tehuantepec (south) and of 1.5 to 2.5 on the west coast of Baja California.
