Economic war against Cuba is incomparable, Díaz-Canel states

Havana, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated on Friday that the economic war against Cuba is incomparable, and highlighted the people's heroism in this situation.

“What has dazzled us completely and definitively is the heroism of the Cuban people, a tremendous fighter who, as we have said, deserves a monument and it will never be enough,” the president said at the National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament).

Speaking at the closing of the 4th Ordinary Session of Parliament, the head of State recalled that the country’s top leadership paid 100 visits to the provinces this year, including to municipalities affected by devastating natural events such as hurricanes.

“In the live and direct exchange with the people, we confirm every day the importance of arguing, controlling, stimulating, promoting solutions, systematizing and socializing new work experiences and results, so that they become references,” he added.

Díaz-Canel stressed that these meetings help us see “in situ” the realities of the territories.

“As I said at the 9th Plenum of the Party, on the ground we can see what so many compatriots and groups do, raising the most imaginative solutions to everyday problems, fighting with the weapons of work under the hardest conditions due to a lack of resources, to confirm that there are solutions,” he went on to say.

In his speech, the president also referred to the actions that the Government has taken to boost food production, reduce the fiscal deficit, advance macroeconomic stabilization, establish adequate relations between the state and non-state sectors, and seek effective solutions through science and innovation.

Regarding the economic plan approved in this session of the National People’s Power Assembly, Díaz-Canel considered that it is realistic, “but it has many reservations of which we will be able to take advantage as we manage projects, programs and actions that can have impacts to help mark the beginning of overcoming and exiting the current crisis.”

The head of State pointed out that the economic growth proposed in the 2025 plan has to impact on the reduction of inequalities, supporting the quality execution of social programs and favoring development.

He added that social transformation in neighborhoods and communities will continue to be promoted, children’s homes, strategies to improve the care system for the elderly, and the process to improve general education and raise the quality of public healthcare services are also essential.”

Regarding the existence of negative aspirations and trends in Cuban society today, he commented that “there have to be a systematic confrontation with them.”
