Colombian Air Force plane to carry solidarity shipment to Cuba

Bogota, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) A Colombian Air Force plane will carry more than 10 tons of solidarity aid to Cuba on Saturday, as a contribution to palliate the damage caused recently by meteorological phenomena, it was reported here on Friday.

The shipment consist of nonperishable food, medicines and electrical appliances collected by the Cuba Solidarity Movement, with support from the Colombian Communist Party, the Foreign Ministry, Congress and the Government.

The humanitarian aid was agreed upon at a meeting chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Jorge Rojas, and attended by Cuban Ambassador Javier Caamaño, Senator Gloria Flórez (from the Historic Pact), activists who are friends of Cuba, and other officials and representatives of civil society.

Rojas assured that the shipment carries an implicit message against the blockade imposed by the United States and for Cuba’s removal from the State Sponsors of Terrorism (SS|OT) list.

He added that the Cuban people deserve the help of his nation due to their constant support for the search for peace in Colombia, and announced the preparation of a second shipment in early 2025.

On Saturday, Rojas will head a delegation that will travel to Havana, made up of Minister of Mines and Energy Andrés Camacho, Senator Gloria Flórez, who heads the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba, and representatives of the Solidarity Movement, among other people.

Ambassador Caamaño, in turn, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Cuban Government and people for the delivery of the aid, which he described as symbolic, and praised the fact that civil and military societies were closely involved in this task.

He favored strengthening ties between the two countries, the upcoming meeting between foreign ministries, and the potential for an increase in Colombian tourists with an increase in the frequency of commercial flights, after the incorporation of Avianca airline’s operations.

On behalf of the Solidarity Movement, Janio Romero noted that the shipment is a sign of reciprocity with Cuba, where hundreds of young Colombians have graduated and for its effort to help their country achieve peace.

Senator Flórez stated that it is still necessary to reinforce actions to break the manifestations of aggression against Cuba.
