Bolivian government activates immigration alert against Evo Morales

La Paz, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Government confirmed on Thursday an immigration alert against Evo Morales.

Vice Minister of Citizen Security Roberto Ríos confirmed the activation of the measure against the former president, who was charged with an alleged case of human trafficking and smuggling with aggravating circumstances.

“The General Directorate of Migration has communicated to all its departments, as well as to the Police unit, the immigration control police (…), and to its different border points to alert about the presence of Mr. Juan Evo Morales in some of the points,” Ríos declared to the press in La Paz.

The measure is related to the information provided last week by the departmental prosecutor of Tarija, Sandra Gutiérrez, who said that Morales has already been formally charged. She added that since October there has been an arrest warrant, for which the immigration alert was requested.

The vice-minister clarified that the arrest warrant has not yet reached the Departmental Police Command in Cochabamba.

For his part, the vice-minister of Internal Affairs and Police, Jhonny Aguilera, acknowledged that there is a “barrier of community members” who protect Morales, and invited him to testify before the authorities to clarify his legal situation.
