The president acknowledged China’s contribution to his country in a meeting with Qin Boyong, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), according to a statement from the office of the presidential media division.
During the meeting, the head of State said his appreciation extends to Beijing’s support for the debt restructuring program and its loans during economic challenges.
He also highlighted China’s assistance during disaster situations and the provision of school uniforms for the South Asian island’s children.
Dissanayake also called for continued support from the neighbouring country for Sri Lanka’s future.
He stressed the importance of completing Chinese-administered sections of the Central Highway and expressed hope to accelerate the start of supply hubs and institutional projects focused on the port city of Colombo and Hambantota district.
