It is expected that this Thursday a second barge will arrive on the shores of Guayaquil, contracted by the Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (Celec) to the Turkish company Karpowership, to contribute to electricity generation.
Since September 23 this year, Ecuador faces prolonged power cuts that have reached up to 14 hours a day amid the drought and questions to the Government about the lack of timely measures to face the situation.
Industry and trade unions estimate that losses amount to $12 million for every hour without electricity.
This week the outages have been two hours a day, although there have been unforeseen disruptions in some cities.
Although the government promised an end to the blackouts, seven high-consumption industries will be without service for 15 days, until December 31.
