DR and Jamaica sign agreement to regulate air transportation

Santo Domingo, Dec 19 (Prensa Latina) The governments of the Dominican Republic and Jamaica signed an air services agreement to strengthen connectivity, promote trade, tourism and efficiency in this sector between the two countries, the Foreign Ministry informed today.

This is a complementary agreement to the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, in which the parties mutually grant overflight and landing rights, authorize non-scheduled and multi-destination air transport, and agree on strict measures in operational security and civil aviation, among other aspects, the source indicated.

The agreement signed by the Dominican Foreign Minister, Roberto Álvarez, and the Minister of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport of Jamaica, Daryl Vaz, foresees that both countries can designate airlines to operate the agreed air routes, whose frequencies, capacities and prices will be determined by them.

Álvarez assured that this pact will have a direct impact on tourism, by generating income and jobs in key sectors such as hotels and commerce, while it will attract greater foreign investments, contributing to a real rapprochement between the signatory countries. For his part, Minister Daryl Vaz valued the status of bilateral relations and predicted that they will continue to strengthen.
