The project, developed by a UAE government-owned renewable energy company, is part of the country’s goal of generating 40% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev presided over the opening ceremony which was also attended by the Emirati Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Sultan Al-Jaber who noted that Uzbekistan has become a leader in clean energy in the region, attracting investment and moving towards a sustainable future.
The renewable energy company, which has committed $2 billion to clean energy initiatives in Uzbekistan, is also developing additional projects totaling 4 gigawatts.
In addition, during COP29, Uzbekistan and the UAE´s company signed an agreement to develop a new one-gigawatt wind farm in the Mingbulak region, generate 1,000 construction jobs, and supply clean energy to 300,000 homes.
